A pregnant woman was referred by her OB provider at UIHS to a First 5/Road to Resilience Perinatal Healthcare Navigator, as initial screenings indicated a high level of stress for the family. The Navigator met with the woman and through education, the woman was able to identify that she was in a relationship heavily impacted by Intimate Partner Violence and Substance Use. The Navigator provided the mother with education around IPV, Safety Plans, Self-Care, and connected her with other community resources that could assist with legal components of escaping a relationship impacted by IPV. With the Navigator’s encouragement and education, the woman was able to put legal supports in place to protect herself and leave the relationship. She also was able to reconnect with healthy supports in the community and established full-time employment. She and baby are now thriving and doing well!
