IMPACT Legacy – First 5 Prop 10 funding
The big news for IMPACT Legacy is that we have been told we will be funded for another year! Although it will be at 90% of current funding, it will still be enough to accomplish some of our goals and continue to support a diverse group of childcare providers in their quality improvement efforts. This year we have 37 individuals participating in the IMPACT grant, from Family Childcare owners and staff to tribal child care staff from 2 Northcoast tribes. Participants engage in training that includes Trauma Informed Practices, Hubbe Database training and an introduction to the CA ECE Workforce Registry as well as participating in coaching and Professional Learning Communities. We are currently awaiting the arrival of the new RFA to apply for another round of funding.
CSPP QRIS Block Grant – CA Department of Education funding
The California State Preschool Program Quality Ratings and Improvement System Block Grant is currently serving 12 out of the 15 eligible sites in Humboldt County. We are in the process this month of rewriting the grant, due in mid-March, for a two-year cycle. Three programs are due for Rating this year, and it will be the last year of this version of the Rating process. Rating this year is based on the 6 elements found in the Quality Continuum Framework: Child Observation, Developmental and Health Screenings, minimum qualifications for Lead Teachers, Effective Teacher-Child Communications, Ratio and Group Size, Director Qualifications. For the next 2-year grant cycle, Ratings will be based solely on CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) Assessment data, which is focused on relationships and communication between teachers and children, while the CA Dept of Education revises and re-creates a new Rating system with a more equitable view of measuring quality.
Quality Improvement Grant (QIG)– CA Department of Social Services funding
There are 27 Family Child Care providers participating in the QIG this year. Although their programs are not rated, they are encouraged to use the Quality Continuum Framework as an evaluation tool for their program to create a plan for Quality Improvement. They will work with a coach to develop and implement their plans and need to log a minimum of 10 hours with their coaches and 20 hours of professional development that supports their QI plan to be eligible to earn a stipend.
Workforce Pathways Grant – CA Department of Social Services funding
There are 22 participants in the Workforce Pathways grant. They work with the Workforce Pathways Advisor (not First 5 staff) to develop their Quality Improvement Plan and the activities that will support it.
