Playgroups offer more than just playtime; they provide access to developmental information for children from 0 to 5 and their caregivers and a group of supportive individuals with whom they can share their parenting experiences. We had the opportunity to establish connections with other agencies and resources that serve in Humboldt County like RCRC (Redwood Coast Regional Center). We are so fortunate to have RCRC staff out visiting playgroups and giving families an opportunity to connect one-on-one with RCRC staff. During their visits, they were able to make important connections with some of our families by answering their questions and concerns, which resulted in referrals for speech therapy and mental health services for some families that attend playgroups- a much needed space for resource connection in our community. That is why we are welcoming agencies that work with Children and Families to visit our playgroups and facilitate their resources to our Playgroup families.
